Caribbean-inspired dining with sea views at Avila Beach Hotel, from breakfast by the water to an unhurried dinner.
The sea is part of the experience at The Pen. Set beside Avila Beach Hotel’s beach, this open-air restaurant brings Caribbean flavours to a setting that invites you to linger.
The Pen Restaurant & Terrace sits at Avila Beach Hotel on Penstraat in Pietermaai. Its partly covered, open-sided setting combines shade with views towards the beach and sea. Breakfast, lunch and dinner each offer a different reason to visit.
The kitchen takes inspiration from Curaçao and the wider Caribbean. Fish, regional ingredients and dishes such as keshi yena help connect the menu to the island. Choose the meal that suits your plans: a seaside breakfast starts the day differently from a long dinner overlooking the water.
The restaurant previously operated as Belle Terrace and was renamed The Pen in 2017. Its name refers to the historic estate’s connection with British governors in the early nineteenth century.
A regular restaurant table and Avila’s separately arranged dinner on the beach are different experiences. If you are imagining a private table in the sand, request that arrangement specifically. For the restaurant itself, the official website brings together menus and table reservations.
How far is the drive from your stay?
The Pen makes sense when the setting matters as much as the meal. We would consider lunch for the daylight sea views or dinner for a more leisurely evening. Mention your seating preference when booking, especially if the view is an important part of the occasion.

Do not assume it does. Restaurant reservations and beach access are separate arrangements. Ask Avila about its beach access options if you want to swim or use loungers as well.
The hotel advertises options for different dietary needs. Discuss allergies, vegan requests or other restrictions before your visit and confirm what the kitchen can prepare.
