Which market?

Staying in an apartment or villa

A supermarket near your accommodation or along your route makes it easier to buy breakfast supplies and ingredients for meals.

Exploring Willemstad

Combine a walk through Punda with a visit to the Floating Market or a local lunch at Plasa Bieu.

Arriving later in the day

Check your chosen branch’s closing time and start with what you need for the first evening and following morning.

Which supermarket is convenient for your stay?

Mangusa Hypermarket is on Cas Coraweg, and Vreugdenhil is just off Caracasbaaiweg. Van den Tweel has branches in Zeelandia and Jan Thiel, while Carrefour is inside Sambil shopping centre. If you are staying in Jan Thiel, the local Van den Tweel branch is one option to consider. Elsewhere, check which supermarket fits your route to or from your accommodation. For a few items, a convenient location may matter more than visiting a particular store.

Where can you visit a market in Willemstad?

The Floating Market in Punda is a stop for fruit and vegetables. Plasa Bieu, also known as Marshe Bieu, is the old market food hall where you can have a local lunch. Choose the Floating Market if you want to browse produce, or Plasa Bieu if you want a prepared meal. Either can be part of a walk through Punda. Our local food guide helps you explore where and what to eat.

What groceries do you need on arrival?

Start with breakfast, drinks and something simple for your first evening. Before stocking up, check what your accommodation already provides, including coffee, cooking oil and cleaning products. For a late arrival, check the closing time of the specific branch you plan to visit. Buy chilled and frozen items at the end of your shopping trip and take them straight to your accommodation.

How can you avoid unnecessary shopping costs?

Make a list based on the meals you expect to eat at your accommodation. Compare pack sizes as well as prices: a larger pack is only useful if you will finish it during your stay. For a small shop, consider whether a separate drive is worthwhile. If you need a specific baby product or food for a particular diet, check availability with the supermarket before making the trip.

Questions

Are supermarkets in Curaçao open on Sundays?

Several supermarkets open on Sundays, but opening hours vary by branch and may be shorter than during the week. Check the hours of your chosen store, especially on public holidays or if you arrive later in the day.

Can you do all your grocery shopping at Plasa Bieu?

Plasa Bieu is mainly a place to eat a prepared local meal. For breakfast supplies, household products and ingredients to cook at your accommodation, choose a supermarket.
