Kitesurfing, walking and wide views across the bay
Sint Joris Bay, also known as Sint Jorisbaai, brings together wind, water and open landscapes on the eastern side of Curaçao. Come to watch the kitesurfers, take a walk or enjoy a relaxed stop by the water.
Kitesurfing is one of the main attractions at Sint Joris Bay. On windy days, you can watch riders cross the water or arrange a lesson yourself. Conditions vary, so let an instructor assess whether the wind suits your experience level.
The surrounding Groot Sint Joris area has walking routes and a picnic spot at Pos Salu. Choose your route before setting out, wear sturdy shoes and bring drinking water. Keep your distance from kite lines and the areas where riders launch and land.
The final approach to Kite Beach is unpaved. Check the route to your chosen stop rather than navigating to the middle of the bay. Follow local access signs and respect gates and private land. For swimming or snorkeling, we would choose a dedicated swimming beach; here, the landscape and watersports are the main reasons to visit.
How far is the drive from your stay?
The western shore once formed part of the Groot Sint Joris plantation. Its historic country house and water wells reflect the area’s agricultural past.
We would include Sint Joris Bay in a day exploring eastern Curaçao. Watching the kitesurfers gives you a reason to slow down and enjoy the view. Our tip: leave some time to sit by the water instead of making it only a quick photo stop.

Entry to Kite Beach is advertised as free. Lessons, rentals and drinks cost extra. Access to other parts of the bay depends on the entrance and landowner.
Yes, local schools offer beginner lessons. Book instruction rather than trying independently, and let the school choose suitable conditions. Being able to swim does not replace learning kite control and safety procedures.
Kite Beach has a bar, toilet and shower. The toilet and shower are available when the bar is open or an instructor is present.
We suggest around 45–60 minutes for a relaxed stop to watch the kitesurfers and enjoy the view. Allow longer for a walk or lesson, following the duration and meeting time of your chosen activity.
