Explore by scooter, bicycle or on foot
A scooter, bicycle or walk can be a great way to discover part of Curaçao. Choose your transport around the route, your experience and the distance, especially for trips beyond Willemstad.
Cycling is possible, but do not expect a continuous network of separate cycle paths. Heat, traffic and hills make route choice important. Ask a local rental company for a suitable route rather than following the shortest driving directions.
Start early, carry water and choose a distance you can comfortably complete. An e-bike helps with the effort, but you still need to manage traffic and heat. For off-road exploring, consider a guided mountain-bike ride matched to your ability.
A scooter can suit shorter journeys if you are comfortable riding in traffic. For a long day visiting scattered beaches, consider the distance, weather exposure and limited luggage space. Choose a vehicle you can handle confidently.
Wear a properly fitted helmet and closed shoes. Check brakes, tyres, lights and mirrors before leaving, and photograph existing damage. Ask about suitable roads and leave extra room around potholes, loose gravel and sandy road edges.
Confirm the deposit, insurance cover, excess and breakdown arrangements before booking. Ask about restrictions on routes, passengers or unpaved roads. For electric vehicles, have the charging procedure explained and save the assistance number before setting off.
Punda, Otrobanda and nearby Pietermaai are rewarding areas to explore on foot. Plan shorter walks with shade and breaks, and check the actual route from your accommodation: a short driving distance does not guarantee a comfortable pavement.
The Queen Emma Bridge connects Punda and Otrobanda for pedestrians. When it opens for shipping, a free passenger ferry provides the crossing. Allow extra time if you have a reservation or pickup on the other side.
You do not need one transport option for the whole holiday. Walk around the city, choose a guided ride for an active morning and arrange transport for a longer beach day. Ask your accommodation whether it offers a shuttle, where it stops and whether booking is required.

Requirements depend on the vehicle category. Ask the rental company to confirm the licence accepted for your specific scooter, along with minimum age and insurance conditions. Do not assume that a car licence covers every scooter or motorcycle.
Only choose this option if the vehicle and rental agreement permit a passenger. Confirm the weight limit, passenger footrests and a suitable helmet for each person. Ask about child passengers separately before booking.
Range depends on the bike, assistance level, hills, wind and load. Discuss your planned route with the rental company, start with sufficient charge and keep a reserve for the return. Confirm what assistance is available if the battery runs out.
