Cash, cards, ATMs and understanding your bill on Curaçao.
Can you pay in dollars, or should you carry guilders? A payment card plus some cash is a practical combination on Curaçao. Check the currency before approving a payment.
The local currency is the Caribbean guilder: XCG or Cg. It is pegged at US$1 = Cg 1.79. US dollars are widely accepted, but the rate used by a business and any fees may differ. Ask which currency your change will be in.
Many hotels, restaurants and supermarkets accept cards, but smaller sellers and some beach facilities require cash. Card brands and foreign debit cards are not accepted everywhere. Carry a backup payment method and check your overseas spending limits.
Use a bank ATM in a well-lit location. Check the withdrawal currency, machine fee and final amount before confirming; your own bank may charge separately. Available currencies vary by machine.
Check whether the bill already includes a service charge. Ask if the wording is unclear, then decide whether to leave an additional tip. Do not automatically add a second service amount.

Do not rely on euros for everyday purchases. Use a card, Caribbean guilders or US dollars. If you bring euro cash, check exchange availability, identification requirements and costs with a bank.
That depends on the card network, your bank settings and the terminal or ATM. Enable use outside your home region if required and bring a second card or cash.
No. Old ANG cash is no longer legal tender. Check the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten for the current exchange procedure; do not assume shops or commercial banks will accept it.
