Which beach?

Families with young children

Prioritise shade, toilets, an easy walk and space for breaks.

Children who want to snorkel

Choose access and a swimming distance suited to their ability and confidence.

Families considering an excursion

Compare ages, transport arrangements, duration and time at the beach before choosing.

Which beaches should you look at first?

Cas Abao and Porto Mari are starting points if you want a beach with facilities for a longer visit. Cas Abao has toilets, showers and shaded palapas; Porto Mari welcomes families with children of all ages. Compare Grote Knip, Daaibooi and Playa Lagun as well, checking which facilities and access arrangements suit your family.

What matters with toddlers and older children?

With a toddler, focus on shade, a manageable walk and somewhere to change and take a break. Older children may want more time swimming or snorkeling. Choose for their swimming ability and confidence in the sea. If your children have different needs, plan how the adults will divide their attention before entering the water.

What should you check before children enter the sea?

Look at the waves, depth and footing where you intend to enter. Stay within arm’s reach of young children and weak swimmers. Agree which adult is watching the children, including when you are visiting with a group. Swimming aids do not replace adult supervision.

What should you bring for a family beach visit?

Pack drinking water, sun protection, hats, swimwear, towels and dry clothes. Plan where you will eat and whether you need to bring snacks. Check the availability of shade and toilets before leaving. Allow time for breaks out of the sun and keep the amount you carry manageable for the walk from the car.

One beach or a beach-hopping excursion?

One main beach gives you time to settle in and take breaks around your children’s routine. If you prefer several stops, include the driving and getting ready at each beach in your plan. For an excursion, check minimum ages, suitable child seating during transport, the duration and time at each stop before booking.

Questions

Can I take a stroller to the beach?

Check the full route from the parking area to where you want to sit. Steps, uneven paths and sand can make a stroller difficult to use. Ask about access at your chosen beach before relying on it.

Do children get free beach entrance?

Check each beach’s entrance conditions and any age limits for child rates. Loungers and other services may be charged separately. For an excursion, check the child ticket conditions and what is included.
