Snorkel above a small wreck surrounded by reef fish
Discover Curaçao’s famous shallow tugboat wreck, where a swim from the beach brings you above an old boat covered in marine life.
The Tugboat wreck lies off Tugboat Beach on the Caracasbaai Peninsula, in approximately five metres of water. When visibility is good, you can recognise the small boat from the surface with a mask and snorkel. Coral, sponges and fish have turned it into an underwater habitat, giving you plenty to notice beyond the outline of the wreck itself.
You can enter from the beach, so a boat excursion is optional. Before swimming out, ask the local dive team about the recommended entry, current conditions and boat traffic. The beach is small and stony, with equipment rental, a dive operation and a beach bar nearby.
Take your time around the wreck and watch how fish move between its sheltered corners. Keep your fins clear of coral, leave marine life undisturbed and view the boat from the outside.
How far is the drive from your stay?
We’d come for the wreck and stay a little longer for the fish around it. Add a drink on shore afterwards and you have a lovely, unhurried outing.

Allow one to two hours for getting ready, snorkelling and a break on shore. Add more time if you book a guided activity or want to relax at the beach.
