The present landhuis dates from 1840 and replaced an earlier house. The estate produced salt alongside agricultural activities and livestock, using enslaved labour during the plantation era. Its later role as an art gallery connects the site with Nena Sanchez, the Curaçaoan artist who died in 2017. Her work remains the focus of a visit today.
